French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that Blackburn Rovers are ready to make a move for former Monaco midfielder Camel Meriem. The 30 year old spent four years with the principality club after successful spells with Sochaux, Bordeaux and Marseille which had led to an international cap. He was released this summer though with Monaco having signed other midfielders who were put ahead of Meriem in the pecking order.
Blackburn, whose season has been neither good nor terrible, sit in the lower half of the table but one of their bright sparks has been a summer signing from France in the form of Steven N’Zonzi and the successful move has opened Sam Allardyce’s eyes to the idea of signing more French players and Meriem is the latest player to be mentioned, offering an experienced midfielder to the club on a free – something Allardyce was known to love back in his time at Bolton.
Meriem, who is of Algerian descent, has proved a regular for all the teams he’s played for in his career and plays as an attacking midfielder with plenty of creative ability. The fact that he was good enough to play for France is sure to interest Allardyce who is known for having an eye for a bargain. At a cost of nothing surely it’s a move that couldn’t go wrong?
