The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern would be forgiven for trying to forget this season altogether, despite winning the Premier League title under a year ago.
Chelsea had a rocky start to the season suffering a loss in their first match of the new season in which it looked likely to our punters that Antonio Conte may be on his way out. The Blues refound their form to climb into third and seem set to stay there for the remainder of the season.
However, since the turn of the year, Chelsea have struggled in all competitions amid a worrying backdrop. Moreover, in the Premier League where they are currently sat outside the Champions League spots by some way. It’s been hard to argue the point of who’s impressed so far in the season, with so many of the players seemingly disinterested.
Indeed, in another bleak season following a title win, the Blues in the bar think that these TWO players have been a step above the rest. Chelsea fans would you agree?
Andreas Christensen

The Danish centre-back has been in outstanding form this season and is currently keeping club captain Gary Cahill out of the side. Christensen is one of the rare success stories following Chelsea’s loan policy, maturing into a wonderful talent despite his vast number of short stints away.
He has stepped in and levelled up when Chelsea have needed him most, and his one of the brightest young talents around. The Blues would be wise to tie him down for the long term, whether they’re in the Champions League or not.
Willian

The Brazilian midfielder has started to find his dazzling form that helped Chelsea win the league under Jose Mourinho’s second spell at the club. Willian has been one of the bright sparks in somewhat of a dull season for our Blues in the bar, much to the delight of our west London locals.
If his form continues the way it has been, especially this year, then Willian would be attracting some attention come to the summer transfer window.
