His argument is quite simply don’t shoot the messenger, having clambered onto the bar to read out the Football League’s official award nominations for the 2016/17 campaign.
The nominations, which cover the Championship, League One and League Two, have already drawn plenty of criticism, in no small part due to Millwall being nominated for League One’s Family Club of the Year and Bolton not getting a single mention in any category despite being well on course for automatic promotion from the third tier.
But the real point of controversy has centred around the absence of Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham, who has been nothing short of phenomenal for Bristol City this season, netting 19 times in the Championship to keep their heads just above water near the foot of the table.
Some reckon the 19-year-old should be up for the Championship’s Player of the Year award, so the fact he’s not even in the race for Young Player of the Year has created quite the storm in the Tavern and on Twitter. Here’s a look at some of the best responses…
