Cesc Fabregas was a fan favourite during his time with Arsenal.
Eventually going on to captain the side, the Spaniard was a star player as the team transitioned away from Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles into a period of far less prosperity.
While his time in North London ended on a sour note, returning to boyhood side FC Barcelona, fans still hold his contributions to the club dear to their hearts.
Now plying his trade at Monaco, Fabregas is only 31 and more than capable of playing in the midfield to a decent standard.
In Monaco’s squad, Aleksandr Golovin is the only midfielder currently averaging more key passes per game than Fabregas (per WhoScored), showing that the Spaniard is still a creative presence in the middle of the park.
Arsenal’s turbulent start to the season has seen pressure build on manager Unai Emery, with a run of poor results compounded by controversies surrounding senior players Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
So when Fabregas tweeted about his old club, some fans got excited. Here’s how they reacted:
Come home lad. Player-manager.

Cesc’s reverse pass to Freddie a pass forever ingrained in my memories of the North London derby.

Gotta say, I criticised you for going to Chelsea, but you really are a gooner at heart. Good on you Cesc!
