According to The Athletic, the decision to remove the captaincy from Xhaka and hand it to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has divided opinion. Some people at the club believe that the 26-year-old midfielder has been ‘thrown under the bus’.
The midfielder was replaced as captain of the club after he was involved in a confrontation with some of the Arsenal fans during his substitution in the game against Crystal Palace. Xhaka goaded his own support after they cheered and booed him off the pitch.
His future has been thrown into doubt as a result of the incident, with the Times reporting he could be leaving the north London club in January.
Fans were less than sympathetic towards the £36m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, Xhaka over the captaincy situation as they took to Twitter to react.
Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:
He threw himself under the train already.

Good! Can they all leave with him. I haven’t seen anyone stand up for the team through performance

If Xhaka was a bus, he’d be late, unnecessary and slow.
