Arsenal: Fans celebrated after Unai Emery took off Granit Xhaka against Aston Villa

Arsenal fans celebrated after Unai Emery decided to take off maligned midfielder Granit Xhaka during the 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

The north London faithful could be heard cheering and booing simultaneously as the Switzerland international was subbed off after what was a disastrous performance (via The Metro).

The Swiss man lost possession of the ball the joint-third most times and committed the joint-second most fouls during his 72 minutes yesterday (via WhoScored).

Emery showed support for the midfielder after the game, saying he remained a huge part of his plans for the club as he urged the fans to show their support for the player.

This isn’t the first time this season the home faithful have voiced their displeasure at one of their own players. Shkodran Mustafi was also booed during the Emirates Cup game against Olympique Lyonnais back in July.

Fans don’t seem to want Xhaka at the club as they took to Twitter to voice their pleasure at his withdrawal yesterday.
