The former Arsenal manager was being honoured at the charity dinner as he was named a ‘legend of football’ (via Mirror).
At the dinner, the Frenchman said he was an ‘Arsenal man’ and a professional, and the reason he decided to move out of the Premier League was that he liked the north London club too much (via Sky Sports)
The former Monaco manager also revealed that he has turned down offers from top-flight clubs in England due to his love for his former side.
After Wenger’s resignation as manager of the club, the north London giants hired Unai Emery as their head coach.
Fans started to profess their love for the 69-year-old after his comments on the club as he took to Twitter to react.
Here is a selection of tweets from Gooners:
I AM NOT CRYING. YOU ARE. I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT FOR THIS MAN.

The man is a legend. Gave us the best football and trophy haul in my lifetime. Drifted on at the helm too long during and after the weathering of a financial storm at the club but nonetheless he gave us so much joy that we’ll never forget
