Arsenal: Fans rip Shkodran Mustafi despite claims of being targeted

Many Arsenal fans are not holding back against Shkodran Mustafi after he made claims about being a ‘target’ for criticism.

Fan account AFTV tweeted out the quote from Mustafi, saying that he has become a target for fans and that the criticism is ‘escalated’ and ‘irrational’. You can see the quote in full below.

“I'm self-critical enough to realise that I made mistakes. I can also deal with tough criticism. But the criticism has become escalated and irrational. I have become a target. At some point, people even blamed me for a defeat I had not played in at all.”

The German defender, who is currently valued at £16.2 million (by Transfermarkt), is yet to make a Premier League matchday squad so far this season, but has played three games in cup competitions.

In fact, the three games he has played in have ended up in 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 wins for Arsenal, with two coming in the Europa League and the other coming in the EFL Cup. So in fairness to the defender, there’s no mandate to blame him for anything this season.

The 27-year-old has played 118 times for Arsenal in his career, making 84 appearances in the Premier League, however, the way his career is going at Arsenal, it may look like he needs to move elsewhere if he wants to boost those Premier League appearances.

Many fans responded to the post slating the German defender further, with some claiming he cost them a place in the top four, and others just telling him to keep himself to himself.
