Arsenal: Fans were far from happy with Freddie Ljungberg for taking off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

In his final game as Arsenal caretaker manager before the newly-appointed Mikel Arteta takes the reins, Freddie Ljungberg came under fire from a lot of Gunners fans over one decision in particular this afternoon.

The club’s official Twitter channel @Arsenal notified followers of the 78th-minute substitution which saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang withdrawn for Alexandre Lacazette in today’s 0-0 draw away to Everton.

The Gunners recorded just six shots at Goodison Park, half of which came from the Gabon international, who was the source of his team’s only two shots on target.

Also, as Arsenal’s top scorer with 13 goals this season, and with the Gunners winning just one of their previous nine Premier League games, the decision to withdraw him when they had just 12 minutes to try and find a goal appeared a curious one from Ljungberg.

Aubameyang perhaps came the closest of anyone on the pitch to finding a goal when, early in the second half, he forced a fine reflex save from Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. [via Sky Sports]

These Arsenal fans on Twitter hit out at Ljungberg over his decision to take off the 30-year-old in the closing minutes of today’s stalemate at Goodison Park, with one believing he is “just like” previous Gunners boss Unai Emery, who was sacked last month:
