Arsenal: Fans worried after European club enter race for Dayot Upamecano

Arsenal’s defence has been far from the club’s strongest area on the pitch for the last couple of seasons.

Last season, the team conceded a mammoth 51 goals in the Premier League, meanwhile, this campaign, they have already shipped 30 in the opening 21 fixtures. So, you can understand if fans get a little agitated when reports claim that a fellow European club are joining them in the race for a centre-back.

Well, according to recent reports from Spanish outlet AS, Barcelona are in the hunt for Red Bull Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. Indeed, the Gunners have been in pursuit for Upamecano since last summer, when they bid for the 21-year-old in the summer transfer window (via Bild).

The player is highly-rated, however, with his contract expiring at the end of next season, it seems Leipzig could be keen on cashing in rather than lose him for a low fee (Le Parisien via GFFN). Fans have been taking to Twitter to react with worried expressions after the report of the Catalan club’s interest.
