Although Arsenal have finally managed to secure their first signing of the transfer window in Gabriel Martinelli, there’s still plenty of business to be done in north London this summer.
From BBC Sport reporting that the club are keen on securing a deal for Kieran Tierney to Sky Sports News claiming Arsenal have made a £40 million bid for Wilfried Zaha, the Gunners appear to be active in the transfer market to build on Unai Emery’s first season in English football, where the Spaniard missed out on a top-four spot by just a single point, and another exciting name is currently doing the rounds.
CalcioMercato journalist Matteo Pedrosi recently claimed on Twitter that the Gunners are interested in Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech although negotiations are yet to commence between the two parties, whilst also stating the Moroccan international has turned down a move to Sevilla this summer already.
With Mesut Ozil having his worst season to date in an Arsenal kit based on numbers from WhoScored in which the former Real Madrid playmaker only scored six goals and registered three assists, going in for a move for Ziyech makes sense on the surface. After all, the Ajax star was one of the focal points for the Dutch club’s incredible season where the Amsterdam-based side came seconds away from a Champions League final and won the domestic double.
The Dutch-born winger is heading into the final year of his current contract at Ajax, with the Mirror reporting that the club will accept anything above £30 million for him this summer, and after a season where Ziyech scored 16 goals and assisted 17 in the Eredivisie alone, there is a reason Arsenal face competition for the 26-year-old.
With Arsenal looking for a winger this summer based on their links to Zaha and Yannick Carrasco via the Mirror, Ziyech (who has made 53 appearances as a right-winger) could be a source of joy.
