It seems to be groundhog day for Arsenal fans, with Arsene Wenger yet again seemingly reluctant to splash the cash in the January window.

In the face of it, Arsenal cannot afford to sit back and contend with the squad they already have at their disposal as it’s simply not good enough.

The sooner Wenger realises that the better and Arsenal should makes move this week.

With a leaky defence and ageing stars within their first-team, Arsenal need to look towards the future with their signings but need to avoid the well-trodden route in their history; signing an unknown player and hoping he can turn into a gem.

Instead, Arsenal need to push for young but proven players in Europe and within the Premier League, with these TWO signings being exactly what the Gunners need to bolster their squad and possess some chance of success this season.

Jordan Pickford

The young Sunderland stopper is tipped to be a future number one for England and he certainly has the ability to excel between the sticks for a top-club.

With Petr Cech turning 35 this year, Arsenal need to ensure they have a replacement lined-up.

Pickford, just 22, can be that man and Arsenal should sign him this month before sending him back to Sunderland for the remainder of the season.

He has all the capabilities to excel for Arsenal and he could claim the Gunners first-team spot for the next decade.

Jose Gaya

One of the finest young defenders in world football, Valencia left-back Jose Gaya is a signature that Arsenal need to chase – especially with the Spanish giants struggling under the controversial ownership of Peter Lim and sitting outside of the bottom three on only goal difference.

21-year-old Gaya is a product of Valencia’s youth academy but may have to leave this year to continue on his path to success and Arsenal would be the perfect fit, with Gaya coming in to compete with Nacho Monreal for the left-back spot and succeeding his compatriot in the coming years.
