Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern are anticipating a busy few days as the transfer window draws to its conclusion.
Our resident Gunners are alarmed at the number of players who are allegedly close to departing north London. Kieran Gibbs has gone, Shkodran Mustafi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appear destined to leave before tomorrow’s deadline, and another name that could also depart is Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean is the subject of considerable interest from Manchester City, and while our landlord recognises that Arsenal is intent on keeping their best players, they could be forced into selling Sanchez.
It’s evident for all to see that the 28-year-old has no interest in staying at Arsenal. Otherwise, he would have agreed to a contract extension. With only 11 months remaining on his contract, Arsene Wenger’s side risks losing their most valuable player on a free transfer.
Realistically, it is unlikely that the Gunners will win the Premier League title this season. Consequently, they must cash in on Sanchez and use the money to reinvest in the squad.
To lose a player of Sanchez’s undeniable class, experience and calibre on a free transfer would be exceedingly damaging to Arsenal, and thus they must sell him now – while they still can attain money from his departure.
Having lost their status as a Champions League team for the first time under Wenger’s guidance and having lost two of their first three Premier League fixtures, things are looking considerably bleak at Arsenal. To vanquish this negativity and to vindicate Wenger’s contract extension they must exercise their financial resources by signing new players.
