The Daily Express certainly has a story that is of interest to us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not ruled out the possibility of netting Manchester United’s wantaway forward Wayne Rooney.
The future of the former Everton man has been up in the air for some time now and given that the England international has officially handed in a transfer request, it seems that the only thing for sure is that it will not be at Old Trafford.
Given that Rooney and incoming Red Devils boss David Moyes are not exactly the best of buddies this has cast further speculation over the future of the forward and even prompted rumours of a move to a host of clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
It is no secret that Arsene Wenger is after a forward this summer and has £70 million to spend. Now it seems that despite links to Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic it now seems that the Gunners are not ruling out a move for Rooney.
Wenger did remain his determined self however noting: “Look, I’m not in a position today to speak about any transfer targets.
“What I am focused on is the short term and after the Newcastle game I give you answer about these questions.”
Arsenal sold Manchester United van Persie last summer. Will the Red Devils sell Rooney to the Gunners? Rate this rumour below.
