Arsenal fans have been crying out for a massive clear out and re-jig at the club for years, so a deep discussion is happening in the Transfer Tavern about three players that should make the move this January.

Since the days of the Invincibles, Arsenal have settled for top four finishes and FA Cup victories. Each transfer window comes and goes with Arsene Wenger often reluctant to splash the cash like rival teams, much to the frustration of our north London locals.

As the seasons have gone on they’ve acquired some deadwood that needs moving on.

This season, the Gunners lie mid-table, playing Europa League football for the time in decades and surrounded by rumours around their top players. With many contracts up for renewal, this winter window may be the last chance to either tie the player to the club or make a profit.

Our Landlord takes a look at the three players that Arsenal should consider selling when the winter transfer window pops open once again on Jan 1st.

Alexis Sanchez

Manchester City came in on deadline day for Sanchez with a failed late offer, something that could be rectified in January. Sanchez’s contract makes him able to leave for free come the summer anyway, so the first month of 2018 is the last chance to get some money in.

The Chilean has looked a frustrated figure in recent times and his strong will to win has clashed with Arsenal’s mediocrity.

With the situation potentially damaging team moral as the season goes on, surely Wenger will want to cash in rather than let him leave for free.

If it’s done early enough, he can look for a replacement in January.

Mesut Ozil

Another player looking like he’s willing to run down his contract, Mesut Ozil continues to divide opinion in our bar.

Having recently been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, Arsenal may want to try and cash in on Ozil.

Still, the possibility of two of their star players joining and strengthen division rivals must surely make Wenger want to try to offload the German midfielder abroad first.

Ozil has often been criticized for is going missing performances, but it looks like another one of Arsenal’s top men has had enough of life at Emirates stadium.

Olivier Giroud

It looks like Giroud as made a name for himself as a super sub and, while this is obviously very much his own doing, is also largely down to the fact he still remains a fringe player at Arsenal.

Recent signing Alexandre Lacazette is in front of him in the pecking order at the Emirates and the club record man certainly looks like he knows where the back of the net is.

A move to Everton seemed to be on the cards in the past window and with their current inabilities upfront may be forced to come in again for the Frenchman come January.

As it’s a World cup season, Giroud won’t fancy playing his part from the bench.
