Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are content with Jose Mourinho’s mindset towards Petr Cech’s future as the Daily Mail reveal that he will not get in the 32-year-old’s way if he wants to leave the club, but he will demand a ‘huge’ fee.
The Czech Republican shot stopper is regarded as a Chelsea legend but there has been a lot of speculation surrounding his future, which would end his 11-year association with Chelsea.
The Blues goalkeeper has been a target for fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool, however it is debatable whether they would fork out a ‘huge fee’ to sign the veteran goalkeeper.
Although Thibaut Courtois has played most of the games this season, Cech has put in key performances, as Mourinho has called on him to step into the first team to take Courtois out of the spotlight after a string of mistakes.
Mourinho has said that no one will be able to convince him to stay for another year, but clings on to a glimmer of hope that some clubs may be put off of his price tag.
‘I don’t think Petr is a guy to be persuaded,’ Mourinho said. ‘He doesn’t let anyone persuade him.
‘I think he’s very mature making what he feels is the best decision for him and his future. I will just wait, wishing his decision is to stay. That’s my desire. I would like him very, very much to stay.
‘But I don’t waste my time trying to persuade him because it’s just his decision. If he tells me he wants to leave I will tell him my opinion, that he is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world, so huge money.’
