Arsenal’s William Gallas Is ‘Up For Grabs’

Arsenal could lose defender William Gallas in the summer over Arsene Wenger’s over-30 rule, according to The Sun.

Gallas, 32, is out of contract in the summer and it has been rumoured that Arsenal may offer the Frenchman a longer deal to stay at the Emirates, but Wenger has always refused to offer veteran players more than a one year deal.

Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood has stood behind his manager, telling The Sun:

“Arsene has a policy with players who are aged 30 to offer them one-year extensions.

He has not asked us to make an exception for Gallas. If he did, I am sure the board would agree to it.

I think it is proper for players of that age to get one-year deals. Then if they do well, they get another year”.

Arsenal have used the rolling one year deal with Dennis Bergkamp before, and are keen to keep Gallas at the club. The Frenchman was a key part of last night’s victory over Liverpool, making an excellent last-ditch to stop David N’Gog scoring at the Emirates last night.
