Breaking news this evening from Das Bild that Lucas Podolski has agreed terms with Arsenal Football Club.
At this very early stage the precise transfer figure has yet to be officially announced but the German media are confident that Cologne would be looking for a minimum of about €18 million.
The suggestion is that Bayern were the last outfit to be seriously negotiating for the player but the price was thought to have drifted north of the €23 million mark.
Arsene Wenger has been up against it of late. His transfers in the recent January window were derided in many quarters of being scatter gun. The heat certainly lifted at the weekend as Spurs were thumped 5-2 at the Emirates, but long term he has to first secure Champions League football as a minimum to keep fans on side and secondly get Robin Van Persie to sign a new contract before he is tempted to go the same way as Nasri and Fabregas.
If Podolski is a replacement for Van Persie then in PR terms he needn’t have bothered.
