Arsenal have quietly improved this season and after a nervy win against Swansea this weekend, they’ve now won 6 Premier League games on the trot and have joined City at the top of the table, both on 19 points.

Arsenal seem to always fall short and it’s too early to start talking about this being their year but as of right now, it’s hard to deny that they’re playing some neat stuff.

No matter what though, their ruthlessness is their achilles heel and it comes back to bite sometimes.

They were very almost made to pay for it against Swansea as the Welsh side lost 3-2 and should’ve equalised towards the end of the game.

For the most part though, Arsenal were very impressive and are creating chances by the bucket load.

Wenger seems to be getting the most out of his squad and has somehow revitalised Theo Walcott after a stale 18 months or so.

Despite this impressiveness, the punters here at the Tavern are convinced that in order for Arsenal to succeed this season, Wenger must utilise these TWO as impact subs….

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

The Ox has not been given an extended run in the Arsenal team, but we still think he’s got a lot to offer Arsene Wenger’s men.

The 23-year-old has made over 100 appearances for the Gunners, but a lot of them have been from the bench and it’s probably getting frustrating for the pacey Englishman to be on the sidelines every game.

Despite that, there’s absolutely no denying that he still has a lot to offer the North Londoners.

If Arsenal are struggling to break down a side, he’s the sort of figure you want to be able to call upon to inject some pace and life into the side.

He has contributed from the bench a couple of times this season, assisting his teammates.

Wenger still seems to prefer using Walcott and Iwobi on the wings, though.

We’ll see how this develops but there’s no denying this lad’s capabilities.

Olivier Giroud

So far this campaign, Alexis Sanchez has been used as the main striker with Giroud becoming the fall guy.

The Frenchman has netted 57 times for the Gunners in 137 league appearances, which is a decent record but he has still been dropped by Wenger this season.

However, there can be no argument with the results so far so it would seem that benching the front man has paid dividends.

Despite his back up status currently, Giroud still has a role to play for Arsenal.

He is the kind of daunting figure to throw on when 1-0 down with 20 minutes left to play. He is good at linking up play and his goal-scoring records prove he knows how to find the back of the net.

There’s definitely more to come from Giroud.
