Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are not fully expecting Antonio Conte to be at the club much longer, after recent rumours of Roman Abramovich’s plans to majorly overhaul the club this summer. The long and much-needed revamp could start at the top with Conte being the first to leave, in a move that Abramovich could regret in the future.

Conte has, for the majority of this season, been linked with the sack. Indeed, after defeat on the opening day of the season to Burnley and terrible summer and winter transfer windows, the Italian seemed frustrated with life at Stamford Bridge.

Yet again the rumours have failed to stop flying around the bar among our regulars, with many claiming the FA Cup final will be his last game in charge. The Italian has won a handful of Premier League games so far this year, alongside being knocked out of the Carabao Cup to rivals Arsenal, suffering back-to-back three-goal defeats and being knocked out of the Champions League, things are not going well in 2018 for Conte.

Despite this our landlord thinks it would be a huge mistake to let the Italian go in the summer Abramovich should be looking at these TWO reasons in particular to sway his decision…

With the right backing

It’s no secret Conte has had trouble bringing the right players into the squad during the previous two transfer windows, however, if the Italian was backed to the hilt early on in the next window with an aggressive plan of bringing players in, next season could be like his first.

We have seen glimpses of what could be under Conte at Stamford Bridge in parts of the season and all of his debut campaign and a confidence boost of backing from the board would pay dividends for the club and the fans.

Strong record

In the two years Conte has been in charge of the Blues, he has won the Premier League and now reached two FA Cup finals, albeit he lost the first one to Arsenal last season.

He also won three titles on the trot during his stint at Juventus, so it proves that the Italian has a winning mindset and formula, something that is always hard to replace. Although he has never won a domestic cup with any of his teams, this could be rectified come May against Man United in the final.

Surely Abramovich wants to bring stability to Stamford Bridge after years of chopping and changing.
