The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are congratulating their Swiss midfielder, Granit Xhaka on his goal in Switzerland’s 6-0 win over Panama. The Arsenal man doubled the Swiss’ lead just after the half an hour mark as Switzerland went on to thrash the minnows who’ll be facing England in the World Cup later in the summer.
The Arsenal fans propping our bar up will be pleased to see their midfielder on the scoresheet as they look to gain some momentum going into the last couple of months of the season. Arsene Wenger’s side have suffered an awful Premier League campaign this term, they currently sit 6th in the table and 13 points off of the top four. The one saving grace for the club this season could be the Europa League, Arsenal will face CSKA Moscow in the last eight and winning the tournament will put the club back among Europe’s elite in the Champions League next season.
A number of Arsenal players have come under fire over the course of the season for failing to deliver when the pressure has been cranked up on Wenger’s men, with Xhaka being one of them. The ex-Borussia Monchengladbach man has been singled out in a number of games and the Arsenal fans will hope his goal can give him some confidence ahead of the end of the season. Xhaka also has the World Cup to look forward to after the domestic season ends and will be looking to get some strong displays under his belt ahead of the trip to Russia.
