Barcelona winger Carles Perez is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal in the coming weeks, according to AS via Caught Offside.
The 21-year-old has seen a surprise increase in game-time this season after injuries to usual starters Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez plagued the Catalans dressing room, and he hasn’t disappointed when called upon.
Perez has scored once and provided two assists in La Liga for the champions thus far, per Transfermarkt, with it now being reported that his promising form is set to see him rewarded with an improved deal at the Camp Nou.
Although the young Spaniard has started the campaign promisingly, he could start to see a drop in minutes due to the return of both Suarez and Messi.
Suarez, who hadn’t featured since Barcelona’s opening day defeat to Athletic Bilbao due to a calf injury, returned to action on Saturday evening, finding the net against Valencia in a 5-2 win on home soil.
Messi – who is yet to feature in La Liga for Barca this term after sustaining a calf injury in the summer – will surely be the first name on the team-sheet when he is back to full fitness, leaving Perez’s place in Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI up in the air.
However, after displaying maturity in the blue and red while the big-hitters have been sidelined, Perez is now tipped to sign a new deal at the club.
From Perez’s point of view, he must continue to work hard and grasp his opportunity with both hands when presented with it.
He has made a strong start to life in the first-team, but with Lionel Messi returning, the true test will be whether or not he can keep forcing his way into Valverde’s plans on a more consistent basis.
