It has so far been a season to forget for Barcelona.
The Catalans have started uncharacteristically slowly in La Liga, winning only 50% of their six games so far, and were nearly beaten in their Champions League group stage opener last week but for a missed penalty from Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.
Despite results on the pitch, it is a more pressing matter which is worrying Barcelona fans at the minute – the constant injuries to talisman Lionel Messi.
The Argentine missed the club’s opening four league games due to injury, but returned to action in the Champions League last week, coming off the bench in the second-half for teenager Ansu Fati.
Messi again featured from the sidelines during Saturday’s shock 2-0 defeat away at Granada, before starting Tuesday night’s clash against Villarreal in La Liga – a match the Blaugrana won 2-1.
The 32-year-old limped off with an injury on Tuesday evening, however, with it now being confirmed via Barca’s official website that he has “elongated his left abductor” and will be once again sidelined whilst he recovers.
