Barcelona midfielder-turned-defender Sergi Roberto has been a mainstay in Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI this season.
The 27-year-old has started eight of the Blaugrana’s nine La Liga matches so far, per Transfermarkt, filling in as a right-back during his previous three outings for the club having initially begun the season in central midfield.
Roberto lined up on the right-hand side of defence against Eibar 10 days ago as Barcelona recorded a 3-0 win at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium, but limped off with a knee injury during that match and missed the Catalans’ unconvincing 2-1 victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League last Tuesday.
He did return to training with the rest of the first team on Sunday, however, and has been given plenty of time to rest and recover due to Barca’s scheduled El Clasico meeting being postponed due to political unrest in Catalonia.
Barcelona’s official Twitter account last night confirmed that the Spaniard has been given the green light to feature against Valladolid this evening, though the news hasn’t gone down too well with some fans of the club, who clearly prefer Nelson Semedo at right-back…
Comon dont rush it guys. Rest him for the season
