This season hasn’t began smoothly for Barcelona.
The Catalans are usually sitting pretty near the top of La Liga by this stage, but a culmination of things – which has included injuries to the likes of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele – have left the Blaugrana eighth in the Spanish top-flight after five matches.
Last week, Barca were lucky not to fall to defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, as Marco Reus missed a penalty for the Germans which saw the tie end goalless. Five days later and the club returned to league action against La Liga newcomers Granada, in a match that on paper you would have expected them to win quite comfortably.
Things went from bad to worse for the Spaniards, however, as Granada beat Ernesto Valverde’s men 2-0 at the Estadio de Los Cármenes. After the game, the only player who went over to apologise to the travelling Barcelona supporters was midfielder Frenkie de Jong – a small gesture that has clearly gone down extremely well with fans of the club on Twitter:
