Villa-Boas is yet again under scrutiny for Chelsea’s fifth place position, not to mention their bombardment at Napoli on Tuesday. Can the 34 year old Portuguese prize manager sustain his place at Stamford Bridge?
I’m sure that anyone who is a Chelsea fan, or knows one, will have heard skepticism or at least hesitation when discuss Andrea Villa-Boas. With their recent drop to fifth position and continued lack of flare, many are worried that the former Porto boss isn’t the Blue’s savior as previously thought.
This being said however, not everybody has Boas in the firing line, and despite his recent shaky record, Graham Le Saux made his thoughts about the manager known in an interview with the BBC. “I hope Andre is there for many years to come and he gets the chance to really establish himself,” the ex-England and Chelsea defender told BBC Sport.
“He is young and talented and shouldn’t be written off after one season.”
This is the general consensus from many Chelsea fans, but it cannot be ignored that there are an ever increasing number of Blues supporters who are losing faith in their young Portuguese manager. Following their shocking 3-1 defeat against Napoli, many are looking around for other top class candidates to sit in the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.
Somewhat surprisingly, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is ‘high on Chelsea’s list of candidates’ to replace Andre Villas-Boas. The Daily Mail posted that Benitez is being discussed to take up the position until the end of the season, obviously only if Abramovich totally loses confidence in poor Villa-Boas.
