Saints patrons in the Transfer Tavern are having a right go at our landlord, who claims the club could be set to lose yet another key player during the next transfer window.
He’s been reading recent reports from The Sun. Yesterday, the British tabloid billed Cedric Soares and Oriol Romeu as potential summer targets for FC Barcelona; today, the same publication claim the European giants are prepared to pay a whopping £25million to land the Portugal international.
The right-back has been an ever-consistent performer since arriving at St. Mary’s as a replacement for Nathaniel Clyne in 2015, and also lifted the Euro 2016 title with his country in France last summer.
Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger recently told talkSPORT that Southampton are eager to hold onto their key players during the coming transfer window, after seeing a multitude leave over the last few summers.
He told Jim White; “We would like to keep this group together. We don’t want to do what we did in the last three summers every year. We would like to move away from that and we feel confident this summer will be a lot quieter in Southampton and we can keep the core of this team moving forward for a few year.”
However, The Sun suggest Krueger may be about to go back on his word, claiming Southampton won’t stand in the way of a deal that will give them a £20million return on their original investment in Soares, who has claimed one assist in 19 Premier League starts this season.
