Last week Sheffield United made an offer of around £12m for Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale which was rejected, and there has been a new update on their pursuit of the player.
According to The Daily Echo, the Blades are yet to submit a second bid for the player as they look to bring him back to Bramall Lane.
When Sheffield United sold him to Bournemouth in 2017, they inserted a sell-on clause into their sale of Ramsdale to the Cherries. Therefore, if they were to bid for him, it would be a cheaper deal than other interested parties would have to complete if they want the ‘keeper.
At 22, Ramsdale is still very young for a goalkeeper and it will be a tough ask to replace Dean Henderson, who had the joint-third most clean sheets in the Premier League last season, picking up 13 in 36 appearances and only conceding 33 goals, per Transfermarkt.
However, the Bournemouth goalkeeper still had a good season, making 129 saves, saving one penalty, and keeping five clean sheets, per Premier League.
These figures suggest that Ramsdale would a very good option for Sheffield United, and these performances clearly did not go unnoticed at the Vitality Stadium, as he was voted the Cherries’ Player of the Year.
The 22-year-old has definitely shown that he has the potential to be a solid Premier League goalkeeper, and if the Blades cannot get Henderson back from Manchester United, then submitting another bid for the Bournemouth ‘keeper seems like a no-brainer.
