Blow for Pardew with Chelsea stalwart determined to prove Conte wrong

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been waxing poetic about Antonio Conte’s impact at Stamford Bridge of late, ever since the Italian reverted to a 3-4-3 formation.

With talk of a potential title tilt returning to the topic of conversation amongst the Blues propping up the bar, they’ve been talking about the situation of one of their stalwarts in relatively good spirits.

According to the Sun, defender Branislav Ivanovic is simply desperate to stay at Stamford Bridge, despite recent links with a move away from the Premier League giants.

London rivals Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on the stoic Serbian, though the report suggests he’s eager to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place.

The trophy-laden 32-year-old has won all there is to win with the club he joined back in 2008 and is understood to have rubbished reports he could move across the capital.

Still, he is out of contract at the club next summer and has seen his playing time limited since the switch in formation.

”Branislav intends to stay Chelsea and fight for his place in Conte’s team. He’s missed a couple of games through injury and is returning to full match fitness”, said a club source.

”He certainly isn’t considering leaving the club.

“He plans to have discussions with Chelsea, his agent and management team at the end of the season but nothing will happen until then.”
