Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a huge turn around in personnel in the summer, ahead of trying to close the gap to Man City.

Antonio Conte, it seems is on borrowed time at Stamford Bridge, with results and performances not exactly going his way, despite leading the club to a Premier League title win last season. Alongside the manager, many of the players need to up their game also, there’s no doubt about that. All around Stamford Bridge, there is a sense that the whole club needs a revamp.

Our Blues in the bar are looking at the remaining few months of the season as a chance for some players to really stake their claim, as to why they should be at the club next season. Indeed their first priority should be gaining qualification for the Champions League, with their recent form since the turn of the year has been poor.

Our landlord takes a look at TWO players in the final run-in of the season who should be giving it their all to impress to stay on next season…

Gary Cahill

The club captain hasn’t had the best of seasons so far at Stamford Bridge and, it looks like the centre-defender is slowly being replaced by younger models. The statistic that has been going around the pub lately is that Chelsea are a better team without Cahill in it, an unthinkable idea last season.

The England man needs to up his game in the final few months of the season to earn the right to continue on with the club, otherwise, the fear of being moved on may become a reality.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

The summer signing hasn’t impressed the majority of the locals in the bar this season, and many believe there are better options out there within the squad. Some would argue that it takes some players a good year to adjust to the rigours of Premier League life, and maybe next season he could come good.

However, he has the remainder of the season to start to show that next season and prove he will be a different player to the one we’ve seen so far.
