Brentford in advanced talks with “remarkable” young midfielder as Keith Andrews eyes first signing

After a solid 2024/25 campaign that saw them finish 10th in the Premier League, narrowly missing out on European football, Brentford are set for a major summer overhaul.

Star forward Bryan Mbeumo, who scored 20 league goals, is widely expected to join Manchester United. His strike partner Yoane Wissa, who netted 19 goals—making them the Premier League’s deadliest duo—is also attracting interest, including from Tottenham Hotspur.

Elsewhere, club captain Christian Nørgaard is close to sealing a move to Arsenal, while goalkeeper Mark Flekken has already joined Bayer Leverkusen, now managed by former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Perhaps the most significant change, however, came on the touchline. After seven transformative years at Brentford—taking the club from Championship strugglers to Premier League mainstays—Thomas Frank has departed to become head coach at Tottenham Hotspur, following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Fortunately for the Bees, the rebuild is already underway. Caoimhin Kelleher has been signed from Liverpool to replace Flekken in goal, while Michael Kayode’s loan from Fiorentina has been made permanent.

Meanwhile, Keith Andrews has stepped up as the club’s new head coach. The 44-year-old has been part of Brentford’s first-team coaching setup since July 2024 and now takes the reins following Frank’s departure.

Andrews is wasting no time in shaping the squad, with his first signing now close. According to The Standard, Brentford are in advanced talks to sign Feyenoord midfielder Antoni Milambo.

Negotiations have reportedly been ongoing since April, and the club is confident of securing the highly-rated 20-year-old.

Milambo, a product of Feyenoord’s academy, can operate as both a central and attacking midfielder. He was a standout performer for the Dutch side this past season, making 43 appearances, scoring seven goals, and contributing nine assists as Feyenoord finished third in the Eredivisie.

The young talent has drawn praise for his maturity and composure from former Feyenoord coach Brian Priske.

“I have praised him many times this season for his mentality and his character. He is maturing quickly, he is taking more and more responsibility,” Priske said of the youngster.

“He is performing at a very high level,” he added. “His decisions in possession are of top quality, again today. He remains very calm on the ball. And that is very good in a match that was so intense and is remarkable for such a young player.”

If Brentford can seal the deal, Andrews may have landed a gem for the next phase of the club’s evolution
