The Brighton fans in the Transfer Tavern find themselves in new territory following their promotion to the Premier League.
Of course, there was one disappointment at the end of last season that the Seagulls could not hold on to the top spot in the Championship, but our landlord still believes that Chris Hughton can be proud of what his side achieved.
Our new resident Seagulls think that with a bit more firepower they can really impress in the Premier League, and they have been discussing the players that they would like to see lead the line at the AMEX next season. The common view from the Brighton punters in the Tavern is that Glenn Murray has never proven his worth in the Premier League and Hughton simply must sign a striker or two to fire the Seagulls to safety. The debate sure has livened up in recent weeks and there are many names being thrown around the tavern.
With that said, let’s take a look at the two strikers that Brighton should sign in this summer transfer window.
Tammy Abraham
If Chelsea learnt anything from England’s U20 World Cup campaign, it is that they sure do have a fantastic youth system. Our landlord feels they will be kicking themselves after letting Dominic Solanke join Liverpool – so they’ll want to give Abraham a real opportunity on loan this season.
The Brighton fans in the Tavern are certainly hoping that their side could make a move because they believe that as a natural goalscorer, he can provide the goals to cement their Premier League status for another year.
Abraham impressed whilst on loan at Championship side Bristol City last year and the thought is that his exposure to Premier League football will benefit both his future as well as the national side’s future.
There is talk that he could be heading to Swansea City, but a deal to Newcastle looked all but confirmed a few weeks ago – so anything is possible between now and the end of the summer.
Chris Wood
As Huddersfield sniff around the Leeds striker, could Brighton move in and sign a man who smashed in 27 goals in the Championship last season?
The New Zealander really showed that he has a goalscoring touch and at 25 years of age, he may just be ready to make the jump to the Premier League in a move that would benefit Wood as much as it would the Seagulls.
Our landlord believes that although Wood would be a budget signing, it would be a smart move as goalscorers are hard to come by.
