It seems to be all doom and gloom for Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern who have seen their side constantly in the relegation zone in recent years.

After seeing Sam Allardyce come to the rescue last year many had felt they’d turn a corner with him but he duly left for the England job.

That, of course, ended sourly but David Moyes coming to the north east offered the Black Cats some hope.

For the first half of this season, though, things have still be difficult and although many changes have been made by Moyes throughout the season, none seem to have paid off yet properly.

With the January transfer window coming up, Moyes will certainly be looking to do business in order to ensure survival but for now, he will keep ringing the changes until his side finally find a strong run of form.

Our landlord agrees and so here are the two players he should definitely axe from the side for good…

Wahbi Khazri

After proving himself to be so vital in Sam Allardyce’s great escape last season, Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting big things from the Tunisian this season.

However, Khazri has failed to hit the heights he set himself last season and has been in and out of the side because of that. Our landlord thinks it’s time to leave him on the bench for some time now, then, in the hope he might actually knuckle down.

A game changer with a quality set piece delivery, Khazri could well be a key figure in Sunderland’s survival bid this season but for now, his performances merit him a place on the bench or even outside the match day squad.

Jason Denayer

The Belgian centre back has been used in his normal position and in central midfield and that has left many here in the Transfer Tavern dumbfounded.

He simply isn’t good enough to play more advanced whilst Sunderland have better defenders so many here by the bar think it’s best he’s put on the bench and stays there. It’s not been the most successful loan spell for him, that’s for sure.
