Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are wondering what will become of Danny Drinkwater in the summer. The deadline day signing has only five league starts to his name since making the move south to SW6 and has not been able to reignite that Premier League winning combination in midfield with N’Golo Kante.
Since his very surprising £35m move to Chelsea on the deadline day of last summers transfer window, the England international hasn’t shown the qualities and talent he did at Leicester City, much to our Blues’ disappointment. Many in the pub felt that signing Drinkwater was a rash move after the strange collapse of the Ross Barkley deal and Conte’s need for more midfield signings was the reason for the quick switch.
Another summer of upheaval awaits at Stamford Bridge with Drinkwater reportedly up for sale at £30m, alongside many of the players after a very poor showing in the league, especially with having only won three Premier League games all calendar year before a late surge seen an upturn in form and winning the FA Cup.
With that being said, if Drinkwater is to leave – our main barman believes that the Chelsea board should go for this £22m rated by Transfermarkt star, with the board set to overhaul the whole club…
OUR VERDICT – Wilfred Ndidi

The Leicester City man is somewhat of a hidden gem in the Premier League and a kind of player that can shine at Chelsea. Ndidi is still only young but he possesses the ability to break down the play and look for the easy pass in order for his team to surge forward, and could be a long-term replacement for his former teammate N’Golo Kante.
In a similar mould to Kante, Ndidi can be the reinforcement at the back to protect the defence and link it in with the creative players in the midfield, and at £22m – it could be a steal of a bargain.
