Our Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to bring in a similar quality of defender should their Belgian leave this summer.

Toby Alderweireld has been strongly linked with a move to PSG from Spurs in the summer after he has struggled to regain his place in the side following an injury. Indeed, the Belgian is demanding double the Spurs current 100k weekly wage cap, and while the Lilywhites are refusing to meet his 200k a week needs – PSG are more than happy to go ahead with the deal, so it’s been reported.

However, while he would be sorely missed at Spurs, our regulars think that Mauricio Pochettino can find some worthy replacements within the PSG ranks. Indeed, the capture of Lucas Moura has worked out well for them so far and, our regulars believe it could produce a good line of players incoming to Spurs for the foreseeable future.

Recently Spurs have found themselves in the top-four once again, mainly thanks to Chelsea’s poor form since the turn of the year and their constant progression looks to be continuing. Still, if they harbour any ambition to kick on next season, then top quality replacements have to be high on the priority list in the summer, should he depart.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO potential PSG players that could prove to be the sweetener to losing Alderweireld, should he move…

Javier Pastore

The Argentine midfielder has had his game time reduced this season, having only managed nine starts in Ligue 1, largely playing back up to Neymar since his summer move.

Pastore would offer Spurs a little something different in the midfield, while also being able to play up front on the left-hand side, should Pochettino opt to use him up there of course.

Pastore surely must accept his time at the French giants is coming to an end, and with a year left on his contract, maybe this summer could be a good time to move in on the Argentine.

Timothy Weah

The highly-rated American international forward would prove good competition for Harry Kane next season. Weah is young and willing to learn, under Pochettino our pub regulars believe he would shine into the brightest of diamonds.

Timothy Weah is the son of legendary striker George Weah, and although he’s already followed in his Dad’s footsteps once by playing for PSG – a move to the Premier league would also mirror another move in his career. Albeit to the north side of London instead of SW6, however, Timothy will certainly be looking to better his father’s goal to game ratio in England.
