Celtic: Postecoglou drops transfer hint ahead of January window

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou expects to make ‘inroads’ on a ‘couple’ of new signings ‘in the next week or so’, ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Celtic’s season so far

So far this season, the Parkhead club have won 16 of their 17 SPFL games, the latest of which seeing them beat Livingston 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Before the January window has even opened, the Hoops have secured deals for Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi.

And now that the window is close to officially opening for business, the Celtic boss has dropped a hint on what Hoops fans can expect when the winter window officially opens for business.

The Latest: Postecoglou’s transfer hint

Speaking to the media (via Football.Scotland), Postecoglou had this to say about the January window and what the Hoops could look to do in it.

“It’s fair to say that we’re working on a couple of others and when they drop depends on how things go.

“That doesn’t mean it’s done because in January, there’s always the potential for outgoings and we’ll have to react if that happens. Hopefully in the next week or so we’ll be able to make some further inroads.”

The Verdict: Strength and depth

Bearing in mind how active the Bhoys have been in the transfer market since Postecoglou arrived at the club back in 2021 in terms of moving players in and out of Parkhead, this should fill the supporters with confidence that the Hoops can find success again this time around.

Celtic’s almost immaculate run of results in the league so far this season means it could be difficult, on the face of it at least, to highlight where the squad may actually need strengthening in January.

Postecoglou’s side have not only scored more goals (53) and conceded fewer (14) than any other club in the league, they also boast the highest average percentage of possession (71.2%).

However, as the boss alludes to, we could see some big name departures, and that would surely lead to an exciting few weeks for transfer rumour lovers in Glasgow.
