Celtic might have to look elsewhere in the summer transfer window for a winger after reports have suggested that current loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi wants to prove himself back at parent club Southampton, according to TV2.
Back in January, The Daily Record believed that the Scottish side could land the player on a permanent deal worth around £9 million. However his latest comments suggest that this might not be the case.
Speaking to TV2 about his future, Elyounoussi said: “I still have three years left of the contract with Southampton and I want to show myself from a better side than what I have done. I hope I can come back and fight back a place.”
The Norway international has made only 10 appearances this season due to a foot injury, via Transfermarkt, but has managed to score four times whilst also assisting twice in the league. He has on average managed 1.7 shots per game, one key pass per game and one successful dribble per game, via WhoScored.
Whilst he hasn’t played as much as he would have liked, those statistics highlight that when he has been on the pitch he has performed well for the Bhoys and offers lots of attacking quality.
It would therefore be a huge blow for Neil Lennon if he is unable to bring the Norwegian in on a permanent deal in the summer. It would leave a big gap in their squad and it would be difficult for the club to replace him with someone who is at the same level as the 25-year-old.
