Celtic could face some stern competition for a player they have had on their radar this season.
The Latics star’s current contract expires at the end of the season and is thought to be in high demand with a host of clubs expected to try and make a swoop for him.
Powell has rejected all of the Championship side’s efforts to offer him a new deal, including one from the new owners that was considered to be fairly large.
Celtic were believed to have been leading the race for the 24-year-old, however, it appears that their Europa League opponents could look to beat them to it.
The Verdict:
Celtic were always going to face competition for Powell as the former Manchester United man has been impressive for Wigan over the last couple of seasons.
And, a move to Germany could prove to be too good for the 24-year-old to turn down after seeing the benefits of playing regular football for some of England’s youngest players can do for their careers.
The Scottish Premiership champions did beat the Bundesliga outfit in midweek and will be hoping to do so again when it comes to a transfer for Powell.
