A number of Celtic fans on social media were waxing lyrical about Callum McGregor on Wednesday night as he found the net in his team’s latest Premiership victory.
The Hoops have now won five league games in succession after defeating Motherwell 4-0 at Fir Park, with the 26-year-old netting his ninth goal of the season. He did it in style, too, collecting James Forrest’s pass and driving a volley from the edge of the penalty area beyond Mark Gillespie to put the visitors three goals to the good with 15 minutes remaining (as per Sky Sports).
That wasn’t McGregor’s only goal contribution of the night, either, as it was his cutback which was finished to the net by Leigh Griffiths shortly after half-time for Celtic’s second goal. He was also involved in the lead-up to Odsonne Edouard’s opening goal in the ninth minute, playing the initial pass to put the Frenchman through before he scored from the rebound after an initial block. Amy Canavan of Read Celtic lauded McGregor after the game, describing him as the “standout performer” at Fir Park, and these Hoops fans on Twitter were also full of praise for the Scotland midfielder, whom one individual described as “a Rolls Royce of a footballer“:
