Celtic: Fans critical of Leigh Griffiths after response to Patryk Klimala signing

A number of Celtic fans have criticised striker Leigh Griffiths over his social activity on Tuesday following the signing of Polish centre-forward Patryk Klimala.

As noted by the Daily Record, the Scotland attacker tweeted a GIF of him putting his fingers to his ears, as if to insinuate that he was shutting out any outside noise about the arrival of another striker at the club, while he also ‘liked’ a tweet from BBC journalist Stefan Bienkowski suggesting that his days at the club could be numbered. Griffiths later deleted his Twitter profile.

The 29-year-old has had his difficulties on and off the pitch over the last number of months, having taken time out of the game last year as he fought a battle with depression (as per BBC) before struggling to win back his place at Celtic upon returning to action, making just one Premiership start and one Europa League start this season.

Despite Griffiths’ troubles, these Celtic fans on Twitter did not like his social media posts following Klimala’s arrival. Some drew comparisons with the attitude of Scott Sinclair, another who struggled for minutes at Celtic before leaving for Preston earlier this month, while others called him ‘petulant’ and questioned his future at the club…
