Some Celtic fans criticised the performance of defender Kristoffer Ajer following his side’s 4-1 win against Hamilton Academical on Sunday.
The 21-year-old did not look comfortable with the ball at his feet, according to Read Celtic, as he went up against the towering Accies forward Marios Ogboe, who scored the opening goal of the afternoon. Despite this, his side fought back from a goal down with a brace from Odsonne Edouard and goals from Christopher Jullien and James Forrest to maintain their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Along with Jullien, Ajer was dominated in the aerial battles by Hamilton’s No. 99, as per 67 Hail Hail, and almost cost the Hoops in the first half after a poorly-placed header called shot-stopper Fraser Foster into action. He aimed to fight back against his critics (cited by the Daily Record), but this performance will not have helped him.
One fan said that he was getting bullied in the air as he struggled to cope with Ogboe, while another believed that under the guidance of Lennon, he is “going backwards”.

Don’t know what Ajer was thinking. He got caught in two minds. Forster bails us out a difficult situation #CelticFC

Great result the day but I don’t get what people see in Ajer. He gets absolutely bullied in the air and on the deck. Jullien has his flaws but I’d take his ability in the air over Ajer every day of the week

Agreed. It’s mental how Ajer seems to have regressed. Some of the mistakes he makes are mad but I do get he’s a centre mid converted to a centre back and still young.

Ajer looks like his forms dipped a bit, but for a guy thats 6’5″ Jullien looks easily bullied. At least when hes on form Ajer is a battler.
