A lot of Celtic fans were discussing Alfie Conn after a fan posted about the former Hoops player on Twitter.
When he first arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in 1977, the player caused some of controversy as he had previously spent six years at Old Firm rivals Rangers from 1968 to 1974, via thecelticwiki. Despite that, the midfielder had a successful spell at the Hoops, playing 49 times across all competitions from 1977 to 1980 and managing to score eight goals.

Unfortunately, his time at Celtic was hampered by a season-ending injury against Dundee United on the opening day of 1977/78 but he left the club having won silverware in the form of two league titles and a Scottish Cup. [via thecelticwiki]
The Twitter post elicited mixed reactions from numerous Celtic fans about the player, with some recalling him fondly while others weren’t won over due to his Rangers past. Here is a flavour of the reaction from some Hoops supporters:
Pic before bed: One of my all time favourite Celts, Alfie Conn. A terrific player who was sadly cursed by injuries during his time at Parkhead.
Altogether now: Oh, he used to be…. pic.twitter.com/NGXRBwPhXQ

Was never my favourite to be honest – he was playing for them one of my first game against them at Parkhead, they beat us, early 70s. He gave Jinky a hard time in front of the jungle. Did he hit the bar /post when he played for us in the 77 final or another game against them ?

Can’t agree, I’m afraid. Flattered around the periphery at the ‘tic, some nice moments but ultimately unsatisfying. One of those early ‘70s Rangers players (Parlane, Johann Fyfe et al) bugged up by the press to rival the QS Gang. Not for me.
