Celtic: Fans hail strength of substitutes’ bench before 4-0 win at Motherwell

A number of Celtic fans were purring over the strength in depth available to manager Neil Lennon after seeing the team selection for Wednesday night’s Premiership encounter.

The club’s official Twitter channel @CelticFC revealed the starting XI for the trip to Motherwell 75 minutes before kick-off, yet it was the names on the substitutes’ bench which caught the attention of many Hoops supporters.

Prior to the match at Fir Park, the seven Celtic substitutes had made 98 appearances between them this season, with Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi scoring a combined 24 goals so far in the current campaign, the Norwegian returning to matchday contention after the best part of three months out with a foot injury.

January signing Patryk Klimala was also on the bench along with two-goal attacking midfielder Tom Rogic and left-back Boli Bolingoli. Goalkeeper Scott Bain was included among the replacements for the second match in succession, having previously been ruled out since late August with a thumb injury, while young right-back Stephen Welsh dropped out of the starting XI after making his Hoops debut against Hamilton last Sunday.

Christie, Klimala and Rogic were deployed against Motherwell, getting 19, seven and four minutes respectively as Celtic ran out 4-0 winners (as per BBC). These Hoops fans on Twitter lauded the strength of their team’s substitutes’ bench at Fir Park after seeing the matchday selection:
