The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from the Scotland manager, Alex McLeish. The 59-year-old told Sky Sports News that Scottish football needs Rangers to be stronger and to be competing with Celtic to improve Scottish football, even if the Celtic fans propping our bar up all disagree. Rangers lost their last two games to Celtic 4-0 and 5-0 and the gap between them looks bigger than ever.
Scottish football will improve if #Rangers can become stronger, says #Scotland Head Coach Alex McLeish https://t.co/wbHesH3Xul

Brendan Rodgers’ side secured the Scottish Premier League title on Sunday when they thrashed Graeme Murty’s side 5-0 at Parkhead and they now sit just one win away from back-to-back domestic trebles when they take on Motherwell in the Scottish Cup final on 19th May. Rangers have been back in the top flight of Scottish football for two seasons and after finishing trophyless and third last season, they’ll be at least trying to better that with a 2nd place this season.
Rangers have been on the rebuild for a number of years after suffering their relegation to the Scottish third division at the end of the 2011/12 season following the EBT scandal. Despite Rangers’ demise, this season has seen Aberdeen and Hibs fighting it out for a second place this season. McLeish’s comments that Celtic would be stronger if Rangers were stronger look to have fallen on deaf ears among the Bhoys in Green as they’ve laughed off the fact that a stronger Rangers makes for a stronger Scotland.
You can read our local Celtic fans’ verdict on McLeish’s comments here:
Scottish football is currently doing well and attendances are up, the race for 2nd spot between 3 teams shows it is more competitive and the Hibs v Killie game at the weekend was arguably the game of the season. Rangers can't get any worse but we certainly don't need them.

What a load of absolute rubbish. Scottish football has Hibs, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock all playing superbly. Hibs beating Celtic last week an example. Sky needs to stop churning out this tosh

Seriously, there are more than 2clubs in Scotland, he played for us all his career and he comes out with this shite. Scottish football will improve if other teams get better funding ie a better TV deal from @SkyUK would help with that.
