Celtic fans will have been relieved after yesterday’s clash with Hibs to hear Brendan Rodgers come out and say that Emilio Izaguirre’s injury isn’t too severe. The Honduran full-back was stretchered off after Darnel Johnson’s disgusting challenge left him writhing in pain, and with the Hibs man only getting a yellow card, the Hoops were livid.
BR on Emilio Izaguirre: “It was a clumsy challenge on him. The medical team tell me they think he’s got away with it, little bit sore but should be fine in a few days.” #CELHIB

Johnson went in with his studs up over the top of the ball and the fans believed at the time that the experienced left-back could be seriously injured as Johnson faced what looked like a certain red card. However, the fans were up in arms to see the Hibs man get away with just a caution and will be delighted to hear that Izaguirre, their stand-in left-back for the injured Kieran Tierney, will be okay.
During Rodgers’ post-match press conference he claimed that ‘it was a clumsy challenge’ and even that has set the Hoops off. They all believe that there was malice in the shocker from Johnson, and you can’t blame them for thinking that if it was one of their players to put in a tackle like that over the top of the ball with studs showing then they’d have been punished correctly with a straight red card.

The Hoops were left fuming with the challenge on their man and will just be glad for now that the Honduran full-back has got through it without a major injury concern.
