Celtic have had some huge nights in Europe. From the 2-1 Tony Watt-inspired win over Barcelona to the 3-3 draw against Manchester City a couple of years back, the Hoops have some fond memories. None, though, are better than 17 years ago today when The Bhoys beat Juventus 4-3 at Parkhead.

Chris Sutton took to Twitter today to reminisce over the clash against Juventus, a game in which he netted twice as Martin O’Neill’s Celtic recorded one of the most famous results in their history at Parkhead. The 4-3 win was ultimately not enough to save the club as they failed to qualify from their Champions League group, but it did help them to a 3rd place finish which saw them drop into the Europa League.
That night, though, will be one that lives long in the memory. Not only did the fans get to see some of Juventus’ best ever players in the form of Alessandro Del Piero, Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet, but they saw their side come away with a win. Henrik Larsson and Lubo Moravcik both scored to add to Sutton’s spectacular double as Del Pierro and Trezeguet got the Juve goals in a night that the Bhoys will never forget.

Lubo was brilliant that day. Single greatest individual performance by a Celtic player in my lifetime.
