The Daily Record has reported that both Glasgow clubs are interested in securing the services of prolific Dundee United forward, Lawrence Shankland.
Celtic scout Tosh McKinlay was spotted in the stands and would likely have been impressed with the hitman notching a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Morton.
There is little question about Shankland’s goalscoring ability at the level where he’s currently playing. Indeed, 60 in 73 for Ayr United and 15 so far for Dundee United point to a man who knows how to find the back of the net, though his poor record at Aberdeen between 2013 and 2017, where he failed to find the net in 17 appearances, leaves a lot to be desired.
Right now, it’s hard to see how the player would start ahead of the more established Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths, while Vakoun Issouf Bayo has impressed of late (pundit Chris Sutton recently talked him up following his recent performances), so it would seem a waste of money when he could’ve been acquired for nothing a few months ago.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the reaction online.
Little Lawwell seeds been planted today about us replacing Eddy with Shankland . Peak Celtic 🍀😂

So again #celtic being linked to @Shankland_25 sorry its ok scoring goals in #SPFL league 1 last year with & #scottishchampionship this year with @dundeeunitedfc he’s unproven as a striker up against good defenders just my opinion

If we don’t have strikers in our massive squad that we can call on then we are not doing things correctly at the Academy.
I don’t think Shankland would do well in the premier league.— Rab Smith 🏴☘ (@whitsthecraic) October 1, 2019
We need a Hartson type ,not another Lewis Morgan type.
