Celtic fans on Twitter are absolutely loving club’s Bobby Lennox statue

When you ask a Celtic fan to name their club’s greatest ever player, a lot of them will jump straight to Bobby Lennox. The Hoops legend spent a total of 19 years at Parkhead over two spells and yesterday the club confirmed that he would be commemorated with a statue in his hometown, Saltcoats.

Now 75-years-old, Lennox will never be forgotten for what he achieved in green and white. The front-man enjoyed an incredible career in Glasgow and will always be remembered as a legend. His 586 games for The Bhoys brought a healthy return of 277 goals and 25 trophies and to this day the only man to score more goals for the famous Scottish club is Jimmy McGrory.

Lennox was famously part of the Lisbon Lions team that won the European Cup in 1967. That Celtic side was famous for winning the European Cup for a number of reasons, with one of those being that every member of the side was born within a 30-mile radius of Parkhead, with Lennox residing the furthest away in Saltcoats where his statue now stands. The fact that the club has made the move to commemorate the club legend is a brilliant gesture, and considering what the 75-year-old gave to the club, it’s only right that they’re now giving back.
