Celtic: Fans rave about Callum McGregor after he captains Hoops in win over Kilmarnock

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor, who has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent days, was lauded by a number of the club’s supporters after his performance at the weekend.

With club captain Scott Brown not in the team that faced Kilmarnock on Sunday due to injury, the 26-year-old was handed the armband for the match at Parkhead and he helped the Hoops to a 3-1 victory, with manager Neil Lennon saying afterwards that he views McGregor as a potential permanent Celtic captain in the future (as per Daily Record).

The Scottish Sun claimed at the weekend that ex-Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is planning a £25m raid for the midfielder to try and entice him to Leicester, which is not surprising given that the Scotland international has been Celtic’s most-used player this season and has scored five goals and set up another six already in 2020.

Glasgow Times reporter Graeme McGarry wrote that McGregor “led by example with his endeavour and quality on the ball” against Kilmarnock. while Abhinab Ghosh of The 4th Official said that the 26-year-old “kept possession ticking in midfield and was an influential figure in driving Celtic forward throughout the 90 minutes”.

These Hoops fans also hailed the stand-in skipper after his performance on Sunday, with one supporter describing him as “immense”:
