Celtic captain Scott Brown came in for a firm rebuke from one of his midweek opponents who accused him of being given too much free rein by referees in Scotland.
Following the Hoops’ 2-0 victory away to Hearts on Wednesday, the Edinburgh club’s midfielder Loic Damour did not hold back in his comments about the Celtic veteran.
He told Edinburgh Evening News [via Daily Record]: “I enjoyed the battle, especially with Brown, I think his name is. Apparently he is like the king of the league because he can do whatever he wants on the pitch and the referee never says anything. He is the referee on the pitch and that is seemingly normal here.”
Damour added: “He plays his game but he also plays like the referee so it is like we have no referee on the pitch. I’m starting to know this league now and I can see that when we play Celtic, ok, Brown is the referee.” [as per Edinburgh Evening News]
Daily Record Sport shared the Hearts midfielder’s quotes on their Twitter channel @Record_Sport.

Brown was booked just 17 minutes into Celtic’s win at Tynecastle, referee Bobby Madden penalising him for a foul on Hearts’ Aaron Hickey, and ironically it was he who robbed Damour of possession in the middle of the park to initiate the move that led to Olivier Ntcham’s goal to double the Hoops’ lead shortly before half-time. The 34-year-old Celtic midfielder is just one game away from racking up 550 appearances for the club, having joined in 2007, and has won 20 domestic trophies with the Hoops, including nine Premiership titles.
These Celtic fans delivered a stinging riposte to Damour’s disparaging comments about Brown:
No apparently about it, he is the king of the league
